We'll be doing something a little different on September 14, as we are joining in a virtual presentation by fellow Rotarian Dr. Anshu Chandra, Doctor of Optometry and Director of the Haiti Eye Clinic, Global Eye Project. While we'll meet at DAC, Dr. Chandra will present from the US on the project which is so close to her heart.

In 2015, Global Eye Project established a small eye clinic within the hospital in Fond des Blancs, Haiti. What began as a modest effort has grown into one of the region’s busiest and most trusted eye centers. Their team has now provided more than 132,000 free eye exams, restoring sight, preventing avoidable blindness, and delivering care to thousands of patients who would otherwise go without treatment.

On a typical day the clinic sees more than 100 patients, many of whom walk hours or even days to reach the clinic. The clinic also serves as a training center for Haitian staff, equipping local professionals with the skills to deliver high-quality, internationally aligned care. Each year the organization serves up to 15,000 people on a budget of less than $50,000 through the Global Eye Project, a fully volunteer-run nonprofit with no administrative overhead. Join the Malmø Rotary International Club and recent speaker Ghislaine Gunge of Ocean Collage for a cleanup effort in Malmø. Children welcome! Bring your own gloves, other equipment will be provided.

CIRC will have a stand at this massive International Citizen Days, September 25-26. Join us in helping on these days from Friday September 25 from 12:00-16:00,  and Saturday September 26 from 10:00-15:00.

We'll pay a visit to the Univserity of Copenhagen's Department of Veterinary and Animal Sciences on its Frederiksberg Campus to hear Søren Saxmose Nielsen, Professor and Veterinary Epidemiologist from Copenhagen University,  present "From Bernhard Bang to Bird Flu: A story of animal health, human health and European cooperation." His presentation focuses on the connection between human and animal food safety and epidemiology. Søren is the Chair of Animal Health and Welfare Panel, European Food Safety Authority.

Mette S. Bertelsen will present 'Building a brand, a business, and an organisation while the ships kept sailing: How we relocated 700,000 annual passengers, launched a new cruise line, and exited DFDS – simultaneously.'

The presentation is based on her experience as Head of Marketing & Communication at Go Nordic Cruiseline, where she led the marketing, brand and communication aspects of the transition following the sale of the Copenhagen–Oslo route from DFDS.

Line Hjort PhD, Assistant Professor at The Centre for Translational Medicine and Parasitology in the deparment of Immunology and Microbiology, University of Copenhagen, will share her research in child and pregnancy studies in Tanzania.

Line's research focuses on determinants of cardiometabolic disease to improve prevention and treatment, and she especially focuses on vulnerable and understudied populations, where research is lacking. Her main expertise is epigenetic mechanisms, and cardiometabolic health and disease.
